How to vote#India, Voter Registration

Election commission of India offers online voter registration for Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 on the qualifying date (1st of January of the year of revision of electoral roll). Citizen, can enroll himself/herself as General Voter and fill Form 6 online at National Voters’ Service Portal. Registered voters should also check their enrollment status

Visit https://electoralsearch.in/ to see if you are registered to vote. If your name appears in the list, you are eligible to vote, otherwise you need to register to vote. Visit https://voterportal.eci.gov.in/ for voter registration. Also, you can use Voter Helpline App to verify your name in Electoral Roll or register online.

Register online to Vote

1. General Voters need to fill Form 6 (Link to online form). This form is also for ‘First time voters’ and ‘voters who have shifted to another constituency’
2. NRI Voter need to fill form 6A (Link to online form)
3. For Deletion or Objection in electoral roll fill form 7 (link to online form)
4. Please fill Form 8 (Link to online form) for any change in (Name, Photo, Age, EPIC Number, Address, Date of birth, Age, Name of relative, Type of relation, Gender).
5. In case of shifting from one place of residence to another place of residence within the same constituency please fill Form 8A (Link to online form).

Requirements for registering to vote

You can enroll as a Voter if you:

1. are an Indian citizen.
2. have attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date i.e. 1st of January of the year of revision of electoral roll.
3. are ordinarily resident of the part/polling area of the constituency where you want to be enrolled.
4. are not disqualified to be enrolled as an elector.

How to register to vote offline #india

1. You can also enroll offline. Fill two copies of Form 6.This form is also available free of cost in offices of Electoral Registration Officers / Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers.
2. The application accompanied by copies of the relevant documents can be filed in person before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer / Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or sent by post addressed to him or can be handed over to the Booth Level Officer of your polling area.

The polling official will check your name on the voter list and check your ID proof (How to vote #india).

 

The official will ink your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register (Form 17A).

Record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM); You will hear a beep sound (How to vote #india).

1. Upon pressing the candidate button on EVM, the red LED light will glow after which the voter should remove his finger from the button.
2. The VVPAT slip will start printing, stay visible for around 7 seconds after which it will get cut and fall into the collection box and a loud beep will be heard indicating the vote has been successfully cast.
3. However, if the voter continues to keep the candidate button pressed, it will neither help nor cause any harm to the EVM.
